ok, so i have a free phone right now. it's nothing special, i didn't need it to be. but i do a lot of typing on it, and it'd be nice to have a keyboard phone. which is why when i started seeing those lg/ironman commercials, i pretty much fell in love with the new lg voyager. look at it, it seems to be totally biting the iphone at first, with it's touchscreen front, and big buttons on that, but when you flip that bitch out and have a full qwerty keyboard in the middle, that's something else entirely.

when i got my first phone, i was like, i don't need a camera, i have one. i don't need a mp3 player, i have one. i don't need a keyboard, i have a computer. but man. this thing is so sleek, and the fact is, it's nice to have all that stuff in one device. especially if that device is made by anyone other than apple. it sucks carrying a phone, a camera, and my mp3 player. there's only so much real estate in one's pants. this phone doesn't even come out until like christmas, but i already want it. it's definitely on my wishlist.

i'm sure it will cost something like 300 bucks, but i believe i'm willing to spend that on a nice toy for myself.

also, i hate all apple products. all of them.

so i saw cloverfield tonight. i liked it alot. the creature was bizarre, and i have no freaking clue what it was or where it came from, or what it's motivation was. and that's alright. i'm not afraid to leave a theater (read: my room) with a few questions left in my head. i'm kind of mad at who survived longer than who. i feel like all the characters got taken in sort of a reverse likability order.

but that's not what i'm mad about. i'm mad about this post on the imdb forums. "this movie deserves to be shown in full screen but the studios has only decided to release 'anamorphic' widescreen copies." THIS PERSON REPRESENTS EVERYTHING WRONG WITH OUR SOCIETY TODAY! deserves to be in fullscreen? are you shitting me? you deserve to have your moving picture privileges REVOKED. fullscreen is not better, folks. you don't like those black bars? I DONT LIKE HAVING TO MISS OUT ON ONE OF MY THREE AMIGOS, BECAUSE FULLSCREEN ONLY ALLOWS ME TO SEE TWO AT A TIME! i don't like having to switch between lando and han because fullscreen can't handle the glory of the millenium falcon AND two actors at the same time. i don't like having to sift through glossy fullscreen dvd covers to find my scuffed, dull cover of the gloriously widescreen copy of the movie i want to see. i hate that everytime i go to walmart, they have a two movie dvd of the neverending story, and the neverending story II AND THEY'RE BOTH IN FULLSCREEN!

it irks the shit out of me. STOP IT.

mpaa, STOP pandering to the stupid people. fullscreen televisions aren't even produced anymore, i hope. why would they be? hey, maybe some people like seeing only 4 out of 8 horses during the chariot race in ben-hur. but the discerning viewer deserves better. i am that viewer, and i can't wait for the day when fullscreen movies are a thing of the past.

no fullscreen version of cloverfield? thank you jj abrams. you are the author of my contentment.

i got my new winsor newtons in the mail. one of them had some hairs bent back, but i think it'll fix itself out. so now i have a 0-3 set. which is nice. cuz i had gotten a 3 by itself, and it was just too big for my anal ass.

... that might be redundant. i also got 72 more marker slots, and some fw flame red and process cyan. which is sweet. i'm building a nice little set of inks and markers. got a good start on some brushes. i'm losing faith in nibs, since they just aren't reliable for me... or maybe i'm not taking care of them properly... i dunno.

i'm watching true lies, and i'm remembering that it's one of the greatest action movies of all time. i mean... good god, they have charlton goddamn heston playing nick fury in the movie. it's a comic nerd's wet dream.

so yeah. i finished up my lord of the rings set, and i finished my 3 extra cards. and two of them have sold already, if you're interested in the arwen/aragorn scene, send me an email, and i'll entertain offers.

i have a friend pimping them out on ebay, and i am so overwhelmed at the response to my cards. it has really been amazing. i just got these cards here approved, and they will be going up on ebay soon. these are from my 10 back for the marvel masterpieces set. it's a puzzle of the inferno saga from the eighties xmen.

it's very dear to me. it's the xmen i grew up on, and it's pretty much my dreamteam. bryan was saying he'd have a team of just havok and all girls, but i'm pretty sure i'd have to throw longshot in there too. just cuz he's one of my favorite characters of all time. altho havok is pretty high up. i'm working on the second wave of marvel cards, and hopefully i'll be working on something even better this month. i really can't wait til this month is over. it's gonna be really good.

yeah, here's some artist proof sketch cards i got approved for the marvel masterpieces set. i think i'm gonna try to sell the captain america on ebay. altho, it'll be the first time i ever use it. not sure how that's gonna go down.

also, the dazzler was my first time trying a white gel pen, and it failed spectacularly. i have since upgraded my arsenal substantially. i've been using honest to god pen and ink for the past couple days, and tonight i bought some nice sable brushes. i'm moving on up, kids. it's happening. here's something a little better with an acrylic white ink. this is for the upcoming lord of the rings masterpieces set.

so i've been buying markers. lots of markers. i am slowly building a collection now. honestly, i've only drawn one thing with the color markers, but dammit if i don't own over 40 of them. at 3 dollars a pop, that ain't cheap either. but whatever. i'm basically paying for them with commissions. so it's like my art is facilitating itself, which is cool.

anyways, so i got home today, and started writing down all the numbers of my markers, so i wouldn't get duplicates. then i was like, might as well log the names too, along with the french names. and then i got stupid. i made them into a nice little excel file first, using open office of course. then i turned the excel file into a simple csv file. then i proceeded to pull that file into php and parse it back out and now i have a nice little list of all the colors i own, with nice little leeched pictures from the prismacolor site. thank you prismacolor site, for naming your pictures in such a way that makes it so easy for me to use them. and also, for making pictures on your website that are 100% more accurate than the stickers on your markers. cuz those are for shit.

and, being the huge nerd i am, i am all about that extra infos. so you might not even notice that you can scroll over the english name to see the french name. so there. take that, unadventurous people.

i'm doing some commission sketches right now, and i'm really loving it. i'm working with pen, something i've never really done before. i'm actually using markers. it's crazy. i went down to the posner's art store, and picked up some prismacolor greytones to try out on some heroes cards i'm doing right now. here's my first ever marker drawing. i like how it turned out.

i only got a 20% and a 50% cuz i didn't know what i needed, but it's clear to me that i need a broader range of saturation. but i still really like how this turned out, and i really enjoyed doing the drawing. i even took a picture before i markered it, cuz i was sure i was gonna mess the drawing up, but everything went smooth, and now i'm ready and raring to go for another. now i can't wait to try out some color.

but godDAMMIT how does he do it? it blows my damn mind. i just sat through a 40 card session, and i am wrecked. (i should've had more done before, but it was the holidays, and i got lazy)

HOW DOES HE DO IT? i mean, this stretched me to my limits just doing that many gandalfs. luckily i got the pattern down, and i still think it's a pretty nice looking card. but still. just doing this made me feel kind of cheap, but grant talks about doing hundreds of ringwraiths and it just reminds me that the guy is BATSHIT INSANE!

seriously. the guy is nuts. go to his journal and look at the full number he's doing. i don't even have the heart to post it myself.

so i drew up some lord of the rings masterpieces II sketchcards. my first set of sketchcards for upperdeck's marvel masterpieces was a disaster. i was late and i didn't even finish. but apparently they liked me enough to give me a second chance on that one. then comes topps into the picture. i got an email saying they wanted to give me a chance to draw some as well. so i asked them for substantially fewer cards then i asked for the marvel set, and i did a lot better. i sent my first 50 off to them two days ago, and i plan to start into the next 50 tomorrow.

here are some of my favorites from the first set that i did. i should be getting a couple of these back from topps and i might sell them on ebay. you know... if anyone wants em... or i might keep em. i'm still not sure. it's all up in the air at this point. i'm still really new to this whole sketchcard thing, much less people actually wanting to pay me for art i enjoyed doing :D

i'm so frickin mad right now. i spent like 9 hours walking to blockbuster. i was so excited. i just got an xbox 360 from my dad for my birthday, and i was ready to join the gaming world. ready to strike out into high definition, and tons of migs and megs of memories for gameplay. so i bought two games. tony hawk project 8 for the 360, cuz i've played and loved every tony hawk game ever. and red ninja for the xbox, cuz i remembered trailers for that game being totally sweet.

and then i walked the whole long way back home.

put in project 8, and... a screen showed that said "please insert this game into an xbox 360 console". ... excuse me? i pulled it out and reloaded it. same thing. SON OF A BITCH! so i turned off the system, rebooted, and put the game back in. this time it loaded. but all the videos were choppy as hell. i realized the game was prolly scratched, but it was playing now, so i was happy. i whip through training, get into the first level of gameplay, and start having a grand ol time. then i wallplant the gate to go into area two AND THE SYSTEM CRASHES!!! and now whenever i load the game back up (it still takes like 3 or 4 tries each time to even be recognized) it just crashes once it starts to load my old game.

so fine, i think, i'll just play my other game. but no. it's not backwards compatible.

thank you xbox. you suck. but blockbuster you suck worse for not warning me a game wasn't backward compatible, and for selling me a game that was defective. you better goddamn let me trade it in for a clean copy, and a different old game.

in which i like movies

i like a quirky movie. movies that not many people will see, but in which i recognize greatness.

have you ever seen the movie '200 cigarettes'? probably not. but it is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. i can watch it over and over and it's always funny. and it's becoming a yearly staple in my house. many of my friends are split on whether or not they like 'a life less ordinary', but that's another of my favorites. it's so quirky and weird and there are so many great bit parts in it.

anyways, i saw a trailer for this movie called 'dedication' and i think i'm gonna love it. i was always on the mandy moore wagon during the whole teen queen fight when she was singing against britney and jessica and christina. but i knew i was right when she started acting in genuinely good movies. especially after 'saved', where she played not only the antagonist, but a girl that just represents everything bad about christian teens.

of course... that movie also reminded me why the culkins should be in more movies... both kieran and macauley.

i wanted to pimp a blog i just found. i'm sure it needs no pimping, but i feel like the people that read my blog might like it. it's called mokb or my old kentucky blog, and it's a bunch of guys who dig up some good random indie music. i really love most of the music they showcase, and it's been a blessed source for new music off the beaten path. so if you likes some good music, then you gotta check this blog out periodically.

the last week or so i've been living day to day, scraping through the last of my ramen. i finally got to go to the grocery store. i got a bunch more ramen, i got POPTARTS!, i got butter (country crock, of course), and i got bread and peanut butter and jelly. i am living the high life now. i even got som totinos pizza rolls. before, my options were limited to ramen soup, ramen noodles, or a hard ramen brick. now i could make ramens... or toast... or a pb&j... or a poptart with butter slathered over it... oh man. you don't even know, man. i feel so good right now.

so i just finished harry potter and the deathly hallows. the only book that ever truly scared me was the turn of the screw, and i believe the only book i ever cried while reading it was this one. when everyone around harry, these characters we've spent so many years with, start going down... you can't help but have pangs of empathy, man. this is definitely the best book in the series. it ties everything together. it brings it all home. and there may even be a reconcilable ending in there, even tho i don't think i would ever call it truly happy.

i'm not gonna spoil it for anyone. except to say yes, everyone dies. and yes, this book is the most amazing book ever in a series of amazing books. i can't wait for the damn movies!!!
